SMART READING #4 A series of Unfortunate Events
Hola a todos!
Hoy vamos a hablar de otra saga literaria que se esta haciendo mas famosa al haber sido convertido en una serie.
Esta saga es: Una Serie de Catastróficas Desdichas, a series of Unfortunate Events en inglés, de Lemony Snicket.
Se trata de una saga de 13 libros, cada uno de 13 capítulos (excepto el último que tiene epílogo) y el último libro salió el 13 de Octubre.
Como sin duda sabeis el numero 13 es supuestamente mala suerte y eso nos indica algo de los libros.
Los libros siguen la historia de los tres niños Baudelaire: Violet, Klaus y Sunny (que es un bebé) que un día de manera inesperada se quedan huérfanos. Y de alli en adelante su vida da un giro de 180 grados.
Primero son adoptados por el “Conde Olaf” que es un hombre horrible que quiere una cosa, la fortuna de los huérfanos.
Junto al Conde hay varios personajes igual de horribles, sus compinches.
Ayudando a los huérfanos hay diferentes adultos que no sirven realmente de mucho.
Los primeros 6 libros siguen un patrón parecido: los huérfanos se mudan con un nuevo y peculiar tutor, pero el conde Olaf siempre les persigue, con diferentes disfraces.
Y aunque a simple vista esto podría parecer algo aburrido, los diferentes personajes lo hacen interesante.
A partir del libro número 7 la cosa cambia, aunque los niños siguen huyendo, son más mayores, más independientes.
Y el final, bueno digamos que nos deja con muchas preguntas, pero creo que lo que el autor quiso era mostrar cómo tres niños inteligentes sobreviven en un mundo en contra suya.
Así que si, aunque el final deja mucho que desear, recomiendo esta saga por Lemony Snicket.

Hello everyone!
Today we are going to look at another Literary Saga that has become more famous in recent times due to it being turned into a TV series: A series of Unfortunate Events by Lemony Snicket.
This saga consists of 13 books, each divided into 13 chapters (except the last one) and the last book came out on the 13th of October.
As you probably know the number 13 is supposedly unlucky and it goes very well with the book’s theme.
The books follow the three Baudelaires: Violet, Klaus and Sunny (who is only a baby) who one day unexpectedly become orphans. From then on their life changes drastically.
First they are adopted by Count Olaf an absolutely horrible man that only wants one thing, the orphan’s fortune.
Alongside him we meet various other terrible characters, the henchmen.
“Helping” the orphans are different adults that aren’t useful.
The first 6 books follow a clear pattern, the three children move in with a new and strange tutor and Count Olaf follows them in disguise. And although this may seem boring, the different characters make it an enjoyable read.
But from number 7 onwards this dynamic changes, the orphans are growing up and becoming more independant.
And the ending, well let’s just say that it leaves you with a lot of questions, but I think that was the point, these stories show us how three intelligent children survive in a world that is against them.
So even though the ending leaves a lot to desire I really recommend the books.
